WHERE TO LOOK FOR JOBS AND POST-DOCS IN PHILOSOPHY

INTERNATIONAL (Canada, US, The world)

  1. Jobs For Philosophers is the mother of all sources for jobs in philosophy, published by the American Philosophical Association in October, November, February and May. McMaster's Department of Philosophy gets this publication delivered in the regular mail. APA members can read the JFP online.

  2. Jobs for Philosophers: More postings contains job advertisements that did not make it into the JFP on time. These can be read by APA members and non-members.

  3. Jobs in Philosophy is a pretty good source of jobs, especially outside of North America. You'll find lots of jobs in Europe, Asia (e.g. Hong Kong), Australia, etc, and also in North America. Most of these do not appear in the JFP.

  4. Chronicle of Higher Education: Philosophy Jobs is a good source of jobs often not in the JFP. Most of these are in North America. This web page is updated and changed every week, so check it frequently. You can also look at the hard copy of the Chronicle at the McMaster library.

  5. The Academic Positions Network occasionally has a Philosophy job or a job in cognate fields such as Women's Studies.

  6. Same with the Academic Employment Network.

  7. The Society for Women in Philosophy (SWIP) has a job announcements page.

  8. The Philosophy News Service Jobs for Philosophers page allows you to subscribe to the eGroup so that you will be sent job announcements as they arise. You can also browse announcements already posted.

  9. The APA Grants and Fellowships page is worth a look.

  10. Cornell maintains a graduate fellowships notebook.

  1. Peter Suber's Guide to Philosophy on the Internet has good jobs links here.
